The staff of the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives provides several educational events for our membership throughout the year. The following is a brief description of our educational opportunities. Directors Certification Program (DCP)
An overview of the critical roles, responsibilities, and skill requirements of cooperative directors. Especially valuable for the newly-elected director or associate board member. Twenty-two hours of instruction offered in four one-day segments.
An overview of the critical roles, responsibilities, and skill requirements of rural telephone association directors and managers. Especially valuable for the newly-elected directors of associations. Twelve hours of instruction offered in two one-day segments.
Director Certification for Mutual Insurance Associations
An overview of the critical roles, responsibilities, and skill requirements of mutual insurance association directors and managers. Especially valuable for the newly-elected director or associate board member. Twelve hours of instruction offered in two one-day segments.
A one day workshop designed to provide Cooperative Directors and Management staff with up-to-date information on industry events. The workshop tends to be oriented to financial issues. New information and trends are shared to aid in decision making at the local cooperative level.
Winter Manager/Director Workshop
A topical program addressing issues of current importance. Five and one-half hours of programming. This program is presented annually at two locations, usually in January.
Mid Management Development
Course designed to improve understanding of cooperative principles and practices and enhance management skills in a broad range of practical areas. Nineteen hours of instruction in four one-day segments. The program’s first session (Phases 1 & 2) is held in November and the last session (Phases 3 & 4) in February.
Summer Manager Director Conference
Board Presidents Training Program
Program emphasizes the importance of communications in the board president position and the positive results thereof. Held annually in Des Moines, IA during February. Two days in length.
Board Officer Training Program
An overview of the responsibilities and requirements of officers of the Board. Valuable for newly-elected directors or long-time veterans. Usually held once each year in July, 6 ½ hours of instruction in a one-day program.
Understanding Your Cooperative
Program designed for employees of local cooperatives to learn about cooperatives. It will further their understanding of the cooperative form of business so that working as a team, their cooperative, their farmer members and their community will prosper and grow.
